The goal is to design a website that not only represents the artist but also prioritizes the right content and experiences.

D’Donnier is a musician building his presence in a digital landscape dominated by social media platforms. While most music discovery and engagement now happens through Instagram, TikTok, and streaming apps, the challenge remains: what role should a personal website play today?

Ideation & testing results

Simplifying the home experience

User testing revealed that combining multiple features on the home screen created confusion. The design evolved to focus solely on mood selection, removing secondary elements to improve clarity.

The final solution presents the six emotional states in a calm carousel, reducing cognitive load and supporting users with busy, high-stress routines.

Design system & Final experience

From Brand Values to Design System

The brand is built around three core values: Serenity, Self-care, and Softness. These principles shaped both the visual and verbal identity, guiding the use of pastel colors, rounded shapes, and an empathetic, positive tone of voice to create a calm and supportive experience.

Key Learning & Takeaways

Be Open to Evolving Ideas

Even though we naturally start with a preconceived idea of what a project will be, it’s essential to remain flexible during the research phase. Insights from user research often challenge initial assumptions, leading to more informed and effective design solutions. Staying open to change ensures the final product aligns with real user needs rather than just initial expectations.

Simplify to a Single Core Functionality

Focusing on one main functionality allows for a clearer, more intuitive user experience. By stripping a concept down to its essence, the product becomes easier to understand, use, and communicate, reducing complexity and increasing impact.
